Obituary:

Victor H. Hill, 75 years old, of Niles, Ohio, died Tuesday, December 15, 2009 at 5:20 PM at Hospice House in Poland.

 

He was born February 18, 1934 in Belington, WV, the son of the late Eugene Hill and Christine Currence Hill Gettig.

 

Mr. Hill attended Warren G. Harding High School and was a service driver for the GM Fab Plant for 27 years, retiring in 1997.

 

He was a US Air Force honorably discharged veteran serving for eight years.

 

Victor was a member of Central Baptist Church in Niles and golfed for Van Huffel, and the Sunrise Senior Golf Leagues. He enjoyed bowling, playing cards and helped coach girls softball. His social life was sitting on his porch spending time with his neighbors and manicuring his lawn.

 

Survivors include his wife, the former Janice Smither, whom he married on November 25, 1965; one son, David (Melissa) Hill of Souix Falls, SD; three daughters, Vicki (Eli) Raptis of Girard, Tammy (John) Handler of Mentor and Cindy Gettig of Rhode Island; one sister, Creta (Terry) Batchelder of Lordstown and one brother, Neil (Nancy) Gettig of Champion; four grandchildren.

 

Other than his parents, Victor was preceded in death by his step-father, Bruce Gettig, who raised him as a child.

 

Memorial services will be held at the Central Baptist Church, 1301 North Road, Niles, at 11:00 AM, Monday, December 21, 2009, where family and friends may gather one hour prior to the service; Pastor Barry Knaub will officiate. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Carl W. Hall Funeral Home.

 

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market Sreet, Youngstown, Ohio 44512-2198 or to the Central Baptist Church.
