Obituary:

Jack A. Bronson, 85, of Warren, Ohio, died Wednesday, December 30 in Trumbull Memorial Hospital.

 

He was born July 27, 1924, in Warren, son of the late Lloyd and Reba Fairchild Bronson.

 

Jack was a graduate of Champion High School, with four-year letters in three sports, and earned a degree in industrial management from the Ohio State University.  He retired from Republic/LTV Steel in 1984 as district manager of the Mahoning Valley.  In 2007, he was inducted into the Champion High School Achievement Hall of Fame.

 

He was an honorably discharged veteran of the US Navy, having served during World War II.

 

Jack was a member of Champion Christian Church, serving in multiple leadership positions including lifetime elder.  He was a current member and past president of the Champion Rotary Club, a 32nd degree Mason Scottish Rite - Cortland Masonic Lodge #529, a past president and board member of the Champion Senior Housing (Woodland Meadows), and a member of the Myasthenia Gravis Association, and Republic Steel Salary Supervisors' Club.

 

In the past, he served as President of the Children's Rehabilitation Center, a trustee of Trumbull Memorial Hospital, a board member and past chairman of the American Iron and Steel Engineers, and board member of the local chapter of the American Red Cross.  He was longtime supporter of Champion Schools and the community, and was honored with the Outstanding Community Leadership Award by the Ohio Educational Service Centers Association in 2006.

 

He enjoyed reading, woodworking, and traveling and was an avid Ohio State University sports fan.

 

Survivors include a daughter, Laura B. (Robert) Hill of Columbus and a son, Jack D. (Chris) Bronson of Medina; four grandchildren, Walter (Joette) Unks, Kristine (Paul) Kuszmaul, Hannah and Jake Bronson; and five great-grandchildren, Bryce, Cole and Gage Kuszmaul, and Sarah and Jonah Unks.

 

He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, the former Wilda VanDervort on October 5, 2009 and one daughter, Beverly S. Smith.

 

Family and Friends may visit from 6 to 8 p.m., Saturday, January 2, 2010 at the Carl W. Hall Funeral Home. Funeral services will take place at the Champion Christian Church at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, January 3, 2010, where family and friends will be received one hour prior.  Interment will be private at Champion Township Cemetery.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Champion Christian Church – Permanent Endowment Fund, 151 Center Street West, Warren, Ohio 44481.
