Walter D. "Walt" Apel, age 87 of Warren, Ohio, died early Monday morning, February 1, 2010 at Northside Hospital in Youngstown, Ohio.
Born, October 10, 1922 in Columbus, Ohio, Walter was a son of the late Fred and Katherine Apel.
He joined the army and served his country in WWII.
August 31, 1956, he was united in marriage to Phyllis J. Burton. They were married for 25 years, before Phyllis preceded him in death in 1981. They were members of St. John Lutheran Church in Columbus, Ohio.
Walter was a graduate of Capital University and worked for Columbia Gas of Ohio as a communication specialist.
He enjoyed dancing, traveling, and putting together jigsaw puzzles, while residing at Heritage Manor, the last two years of his life.
Walter is surivied by his daughter, Charlene Apel, granddaughter, Stephanie J. Hughes, son-in-law, Josh Hughes, son, Charles L. Apel and three granddaughters.
Deceased is his son, Raymond D. Apel, four brothers and one infant brother.
Graveside memorial services will take place at 11:00 AM, Friday, February 5, 2010 at Sunset Cemetery in Galloway, Ohio. Pastor Thomas Phillips will officiate the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contriubtions may be made to the Heritage Manor, 517 Gypsy Lane, Youngstown, Ohio 44504.
