Obituary

Bert O. Coburn, 77, of Cortland, passed away Friday afternoon, December 1, 2017, at his home.

He was born November 17, 1940 in Caretta, WV, a son of Arthur and Anvie (Laferty) Coburn.

Bert was a 1958 graduate of Bath High School in Lima. He then went on to achieve a bachelor's degree from Bowling Green State University.

He worked in sales most of his adult life, mainly with Stanbury Uniforms. He also owned and operated Midwest Band in Cortland for many years prior to retiring.

He married his wife Kathleen on June 17, 2009. They shared eight years of marriage and many happy memories together. She survives him.

Bert wore many hats throughout his life; he was a hunter, pilot, racehorse owner and wine connoisseur. He also collected antique cars and was President of the Cortland Thunderbird Club. One of his proudest achievements was being the oldest kidney transplant recipient in the state of Ohio.

Besides his wife, Bert is survived by two children; Bruce A. (Beth) Coburn, of Union, KY and Kris E. (Rich) Franca, of Portland, OR. He also leaves behind two stepchildren; Melissa Wise, of Girard and Mark Wise, of Cortland; a brother, Dan Coburn, of Columbus; a sister, Carolyn Dion, of Toledo; two grandchildren; Erin Coburn and Nash Franca; and three step grandchildren; Dustin Smith, Deane Deciancio, and Riley Deciancio.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Gerald Coburn, who graciously donated one of his kidneys to Bert in 1974.

Funeral services will be held 4 PM Tuesday, December 5, 2017, at the Carl W. Hall Funeral Home, 533 North Park Ave., Warren.

Friends may call from 2 - 4 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.

Bert will be laid to rest in Pineview Memorial Park, Warren.
