Obituary

Douglas J. "Butch" Osmon, 73, of Niles, also known as "The Wizard Of Oz", passed away late Friday morning, May 3, 2019, at the Hospice House in Poland.

"Butch", as he was affectionately known, was born March 14, 1946 in Cleveland, the son of Marguerite Osmon.

He was employed as a millwright for Republic Steel for more than 20 years and also as a machine repairman for the former Delphi Packard Electric Corp. in Warren for several years, prior to retiring in 2007.

Butch married the former CoAnn K. Elston on September 6, 1969. They shared 49 years of marriage and many happy memories together. She survives him.

At 14 years of age Butch took his grandmother's car and began a lifelong passion, drag racing. He competed in the IHRA and was the 1978 World Champion in the top Alcohol category. He raced in the NHRA as well and moved up to the Top Fuel category, driving for Jim and Allison Lee. He was also one of the organizers of the Mid America Funny Car Circuit. When he wasn't racing, Butch enjoyed going camping and fishing at Lake Erie with his family.

Besides his wife, Butch is survived by two daughters; Carole McCulley, of Tucson, AZ, and Susan Clem, of Winchester, VA. He also leaves behind four grandchildren; Dustin, Alex, and Joshua McCulley, and Kristen Fritch; and two great grandchildren; Amily and Hayden.

He was preceded in death by his mother Marguerite, and his grandparents, Lester and Helen Osmon, who raised him.

Memorial services will be held 7 PM Monday, May 6, 2019, at the Carl W. Hall Funeral Home, 533 North Park Ave., warren, with Mr. Ed Dulka officiating.

Friends may call 5 - 7 PM Monday at the funeral home.

Butch will be laid to rest in the Southington Graham Cemetery, Southington.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that material contributions be made to the Fresenius Kidney Care - Physicians Dialysis, 1840 Elm Rd. NE, Warren, OH 44483, in his memory.
