Obituary

William W. Larrison, 96, died April 10, 2020 at his residence in Johnston.  William was born November 14, 1923 in Kimbolton, Ohio to Charles and Effie (Lisle) Ross.

Growing up during the depression he spent his early years in the Cambridge and Byesville areas of southern Ohio, and later in Akron, where he graduated from Howard Trade School, having studied to be a machinist.

In his late teens Bill (William Ross) became William W. Larrison when he and his brother Charles were adopted by their stepfather, Homer Larrison.  It was about this time that he met the girl next door, Josephine Stefanka, whom he would later marry on August 3, 1946, spending 67 years together until Josephine's death on March 19, 2014.  In 1952 Bill left his family in Akron and came to Johnston to build the house where he and Josephine would raise their eight children.

“Wild Bill” (because he wasn’t),  as he came to be known to many, spent most of his working career as a coil builder and heliarc welder at Ajax Magnethermic in  Warren,  retiring in 1983.  Over the years Bill was known in the area for the many tractors he  rebuilt and sold in his front yard on Route 5 in Johnston, especially Farmalls and Fords.  He was an inventor of sorts and jack of all trades when it came to anything mechanical.  He was also known fondly for his wonderful stories and amazing sense of humor.  Bill and Josephine were among one of the early families of Corinth Assembly of God Church, now Rock of Grace Family Ministries in Kinsman, where he faithfully attended until he suffered a stroke in 2018.

Surviving are eight children: Roger (Sharon) Larrison of Wooster; Cora (Bill) Bosko of Maysville, KY; Cathy (Malcolm) Brubaker of Elverson, PA; Becky (Mark) DeAndrea of Pittsburgh, PA; Dale (Gina) Larrison of Champion; Vera (Russ) Witkowski of Abingdon, IL; Tim (Pam) Larrison of Fowler; and David (Becky) Larrison of Hartford. Also surviving are 27 grandchildren; 67 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; a half sister, Esther Abrams; and a half brother, John Ross. He was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Tammy Roberts; his mother, Effie Sommer; his stepfather, Joseph Sommer; and his brother, Charles (Chick) Larrison, as well as an infant brother and sister.

A private family service was held April 16, 2020 at Johnston Township Cemetery.

The family will hold a public memorial service at Noon on August 1, 2020 at Rock of Grace Family Ministries, 6745 State Route 5 Kinsman, Ohio 44428.  Rev. Mark Biel and Rev. Dean Ventling, both former senior pastors at Rock of Grace, will officiate. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to Noon at the church.  As has become the current custom, face masks and social distancing will be required. Contributions may be made to Rock of Grace Family Ministries in Bill's memory.  Arrangements by Carl W. Hall Funeral Home
