John Myron Melnik, 72, of Youngstown, OH, formerly of Champion, passed away unexpectedly Monday, January 28, 2019, at Trumbull Regional Medical Center.

He was born August 31, 1946, in Germany, the son of the late Mykola and Rozalia (Danylchak) Melnik.

John was a 1964 graduate of Campbell High School. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force having served in Vietnam. After 30 years, John retired from General Motors in 1999. John was a Charter Fishing Captain on Lake Erie for 30 years aboard the "Winter Blues". He also loved hauling travel trailers out of Indiana throughout the United States. He was a member of the Cortland Moose Lodge and the Newton Falls Masonic Lodge.

John is survived by his wife, first mate and co-pilot of 35 years, Sandra J. (Fedele) Melnik of Youngstown, OH, whom he married January 20, 1984; his children, Nicole (Joseph) Miller of Syracuse, NY, John (Darcy) Melnik II of New Wilmington, PA and Allison (Michael) Davis of Massillon, OH; grandchildren, Corey, Kara, John III, Isabella, Gabrielle, Jack, Bryce and great-granddaughter, Adalina. Also surviving are his siblings, Peter (Alice) Melnik of Niles, OH, Michael Melnik of Campbell, OH, Steve (Judi) Melnik of Coitsville, OH, Paul (Karen) Melnik of Campbell, OH and Maryann Melnik of West Palm Beach, FL. He also leaves behind his "boys", Jack and Chip.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

In accordance with John's wishes no services will be held. Cremation has taken place.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Carl W. Hall Funeral Home.
